Primary School

NVCCS primary school offers a broad, challenging, academic curriculum within a caring, secure and supportive learning environment, where each student is recognised and valued for their unique qualities. Academic results are one component of this profile but they are not the only attribute. The school encourages each student to participate in an education that also provides the social skills and physical health and wellbeing that gives them the emotional strength to help deal with life’s challenges.

Nambucca Valley Christian Community School encourages its learners to be critical thinkers, achieve their personal best, have a positive attitude towards their learning, and grow in their understanding of spirituality within the Christian framework.

Our programs seek to provide a warm and supportive community where each child feels safe, nurtured and valued. Your child will be part of a Christian environment with an integrated Christian Education program where students are engaged, motivated and self directed in their learning, with the support of an enthusiastic staff.

Our experienced teaching staff have extensive knowledge and insight into sound educational practices, providing open communication and partnership with parents and carers. Staff encourage the students to grow in their giftings, producing a safe and nurturing environment where all aspects of the student’s character are cultivated.

Particular emphasis is placed on students developing an interest in the Sciences and Technology key learning areas. Each year group participates in scientific investigations in the High School labs in conjunction with High School staff each term. They are assisted, where needed, by students in the upper grades of High School. Technology days also take place each term. Students from K-6 practise their coding skills, using Bots, Spiros and other technical computer related mechanisms.

Excursions are a highlight of the various grades throughout the year. Whether it be a trip to the Folk Museum in Bowraville, the rainforest in Dorrigo, the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, the Teddy Bear’s picnic or a visit to the local sights-they all provide valuable learning opportunities for students.

Nambucca Valley Christian Community School aims to provide an education designed to help each student to reach personal and nationally recognised benchmarks.

The school community is well supported by parents, grandparents and volunteers from both the school and wider Christian communities. Volunteers are integrated into the school in the area of reading, providing valuable one on one reading opportunities for children.

The implementation of a ‘whole school’ approach to learning has become one of the focal areas of the new school culture.

The school has investigated a number of educational environments across the world for ‘best form’ learning and have implemented direct, explicit instruction across their key learning areas, with favourable results.

The Reading Mastery program is used in the K-6 section of the school. It involves the whole school being assessed in their fluency and comprehension skills, and placed in groups with students in the same ability level, and supported through direct instruction.

The Spelling Mastery program is also run across the grades to cater to individual spelling needs.

Nambucca Valley Christian Community School implemented the Acadience Program in Literacy assessment in 2017. It looks at the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (Dibels Next)as a means of assessing literacy.

Early intervention/Special Assistance Programs

Individual plans and program adjustments are written for students needing additional support. These programs are constructed through collaborative consultation with parents, staff and specialists. Families are given the opportunity to work in partnership with teachers in special home assistance programs with associated monitoring, as required.

NSW Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan (LNAP)

The NSW Literacy and Numeracy  Action Plan provides the school with opportunities to lift outcomes, especially in Literacy and Numeracy, through developing a strong capacity in the general classroom and additional supports such as reading with volunteers, Mini-Lit, MaquLit and MultiLit.

Kindergarten to Year 2 are assessed annually to identify students who may be at risk.

Nambucca Valley Christian Community School has been an active participant in the NSW Literacy and Numeracy plan from 2017 until December 2021. The funding received to help administer this program is focused on strengthening the whole school approach to improving students outcomes across the grades from Kindergarten to Year 6, in literacy and numeracy.

Students results are carefully analysed and staffs lessons and teaching styles are also consistently being observed to ensure the best possible learning environment is provided for all students at their individual level of learning.
